Good times become good memories, bad times become good lessons. From registering a for profit organization in the social sector to the commercial launch of our flagship product “Zerodor – Waterless Urinals”, last 3 years has been a journey of wonderful moments and milestones.
On one hand we had challenges and goals and on the other hand we were filled with happiness, excitement and positivity. We were slowly learning to crawl, stand up and walk. We were learning to swim in the unknown ocean called Business in Sanitation. Sanitation still remains a taboo in many parts of the world despite being declared as the subject of great attention and importance under the Millennium Development Goals by the UN.
Our journey started with the support of one of the premier technological institutes of India, IIT Delhi. It was October 2013 when we formally got incubated at the IIT Delhi’s Business Incubation Center.

One thing led to another and we were all set to enter the battle ground. Our very first step was to get the market feedback and response. We rolled out a small batch of Zerodor for test marketing and received an amazing response from institutions across India.

The product now
As we started growing organically, in a short span of 2 years, many passionate people joined us with the common goal of creating an impact not just socially but also economically. Apart from Water Conservation and Developing & Promoting Sustainable Technologies in Sanitation, our objective has been to create livelihood, impart awareness and create a sustainable business model in Sanitation.
In this journey, we have not only been awarded by national and international organizations but have received critical recognition from Media and the Government of India.
Awards and Recognitions
Right from graduating from the Incubation Center to entering into our own premises, from first test lot to 100+ clients, we have come a long way. The journey was also supported by FICCI, CII, Ministry of Urban Development, Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, UNICEF, BMGF, Government of Belgium, UNESCO, USAID, Technology Development Board, Department of Science & Technology, Hay Group and many other institutions and organizations. We would not have reached where we are now without the collaborations and partnerships with institutions and organizations like IIT Delhi, Arizona State University, Dainik Jagran and Rotary Club.
The coming year
When we started development of our flagship product Zerodor – Men’s Waterless Urinals, somewhere in our mind we were also thinking what about women. That’s a more challenging area to work on and there are very few or probably no solutions available.
As we enter the new year, our commitment to figure out a sustainable solution to this issue remains unchanged. We have begun to carve out a Waterless Urinal Solution for Women which will be more Hygienic, Ergonomic and Self Cleaning and it is nothing short of incredible! We are also underway with an upgradation of our current products and will be soon coming out with a Next Generation Zerodor with exciting features.
Everyday we wake up with a desire and passion to change the way we see the world today, to create an impact, to promote water abundance and to create a sustainable environment. We want each and every customer to know that we care about you and that we are committed to strive harder for you each and every day.
From all your friends at Ekam, we wish you a very Happy New Year!
